It is the forth exhibition of the project "Hermitage 20/21" representing the Contemporary Art. Boris Smelov was the legend of Leningrad photography. Born in 1951, he went on to create unforgettable images that transcend the conventions of straight photography and exist as lyrical love songs to the city he called home. Upon his death in 1998, Smelov left behind an extraordinary body of work that stands alongside the best of Russian photography and is a poignant reminder of a way of life on the verge of disappearance.
