The room is the former Large Drawing-Room on the premises of Grand Duchess Maria Nikolayevna and her husband Duke Maximilian Leuchtenberg decorated by Alexander Briullov after the fire of 1837. The room is crowned with a dome painted in imitation of coffering. The lunettes contain relief panels with representations of griffins supporting medallions. The wide frieze is embellished with moulded ornaments. The dark-coloured wooden doors and the inlaid parquet floor contrast with the light colour scheme of the room's decor. The room houses a part of the rich collection of French applied art. On display here are tapestries made at the famous factories - the Gobelins (Portieres of the Gods) and Beauvais works (Grotesques of the Gods) as well as examples of patterned Lyonnaise fabrics. The show-cases demonstrate items of software - biscuit ware produced at the Sèvres, Vincennes and Mennecy factories and also glazed earthenware. The centre of the hall is occupied with the sculpture Catherine the Great as Minerva by Tassaert. The furniture and the longcase clock of Parisian make complete the display.
