This room occupies the part of the second floor of the Winter Palace where the flats of the attending staff were originally situated. The exhibition features a part of the world's best collection of Sassanian silverware of the 3rd to 7th centuries. The vessels were found in the ancient treasure troves in the North of Russia in the 19th and early 20th centuries, the fact that without excuse proves their authenticity. The highlights of the Hermitage collection are the two dishes adorned with expressive royal hunting scenes - King Shapur II Lion Hunting dating from the 4th century and Prince Bahram-Gur and Azadeh produced in the 7th century and depicting the legendary episode of Prince Bahram-Gur hunting a herd of gazelles. Displayed in the same room is a part of a very large collection of Sassanian carved stones with images of gods, portraits of people, figures of real and fantastic animals and flowers. These stones were used as stamps and served as talismans. The display also includes coins struck by the Sassanian kings.
