Restoration of a musical automaton with a clock
by G. Torekler Restoration of a musical clock by Roentgen and Kinzing This exhibit consists of two independent mechanisms. In the upper part there is a small clock with a mechanism typical of English pocket watches from the late 18th century, which sounds the hours on a bronze bell. In the lower part there is a musical box which reproduces five melodies on nine chimes. The operation of the musical box is accompanied by setting in motion of numerous revolving twisted glass tubules which represent rising and falling streams of fountains. This mechanical device is typical of English export products of the late 18th century intended for the Chinese market. As a result of the restoration of the clock, musical and animation mechanisms as well as of numerous decorative elements by the restorers Mikhail Guryev, Oleg Zinatullin and V.A. Molotkov, the artistic form of this musical toy-automaton was fully recreated. Restoration of a musical automaton with a clock by G. Torekler This exhibit consists of two independent mechanisms.
