An egg, which is the symbol of the holiday, occupies the central place in the Easter ritual. The tradition of presenting eggs at Easter dates back to ancient times. In Russia throughout the 18th and 19th centuries porcelain eggs decorated with Biblical scenes and ornamental patterns were used as Easter gifts for the royal family or rewards for distinguished people on behalf of the Emperor. Now the phrase Easter Eggs is associated with the name of Faberge, one of the most famous Russian jewelers.
