Danae: The Fate of Rembrandt's Masterpiece
Danae: The Fate of Rembrandt's Masterpiece

This catalogue is dedicated entirely to Rembrandt's masterpiece Danae (1636-1643). The authors describe the tragic event of 1985, when a mentally deranged man slashed the canvas twice with a knife and doused it with acid. The efforts of expert restorers returned the masterpiece to its original splendor and brought it back to place of honor at the Hermitage ever since.
