This is a fine reproduction of the Hermitage statuette of a goat unearthed in an unknown archaic Greek necropolis (early 5th century BC). The original came to the Hermitage in 1818 from the collection of A.D. Bludov, a well-known antiquarian and Russian Ambassador to Greece. The archaic craftsman realistically rendered the animal's quiet posture although its overall figure is treated schematically. It is a rare example of the Late Archaic art. It has been skillfully crafted by experienced workmen of the Hermitage workshops. Each product has been compared to the original and approved the by the museum specialists. Bronze. Height 3 3/4 in.
