A reproduction of the sculpture Menacing Cupid by the French master of the 18th century Etienne-Maurice Falconet. The original was created in the golden age of the light and festive art of Rococo. The statue, done in 1757, was commissioned by Marquise de Pompadour for her mansion house. Cupid enjoyed immense popularity and a lot of rich people wanted to adorn their salons with this sculpture. Falconet repeated his work six times in different materials. The Hermitage version was created in 1766-69. It has been skillfully crafted by experienced workmen of the Hermitage workshops. Each product has been compared to the original and approved the by the museum specialists. Cast marble. |
