Small-size glasses appeared in Muscovite Russia in the late 16th - early 17th century, when vodka and strong wine were introduced into Russia. A contemporary craftsman engraved his work with the traditional symbol characteristic of the 18th-century court tableware-the Russian Imperial Coat-of-Arms.
