This set was produced at the Lomonosov (formerly Imperial) Porcelain Factory that was founded in 1744. The artist has depicted one of the charming corners of old St Petersburg - the Lion Bridge, a pedestrian suspension bridge over the Griboyedov Canal. The cast-iron lions are holding in their jaws the chains that support the deck of the bridge. The austere ornamental motif, deep blue color and subtle use of gilding are traditional features of Russian artistic porcelain.
