The battle for the liberation of Moscow after the fire to which Napoleon had subjected the city was especially important to raise the morale of Russian troops and for national consciousness. Peasants, partisans and even 15-16 year old adolescents came out to fight against Napoleon. Here on the medallion we see a Russian soldier in the form of a Roman warrior, holding sword and shield in his hands, depicted at the moment when the enemy has already given up and asks the victor for mercy. The figures of Glory in the background of the composition give their blessing to the victory. Medallion from the series Events of the Patriotic War of 1812. F.P. Tolstoy (1783-1873). Copy.
