A poster reproduction of View of the Seine by Maurice de Vlaminck. The original (1906, France; oil on canvas, 21 1/2 x 25 3/4 in.) came to the Hermitage in 1948 from the State Museum of New Western Art in Moscow. Vlaminck, a leading landscape-painter from the Fauvist group, applied paint directly from the tubes, using broad strokes and contrasting color combinations. The painting shows a view of the Seine in Chatou, a Paris suburb where the artist leased a studio. 24 x 16 1/2 in. (60 x 42 cm). |
