Like the Christmas tree is decorated with ornaments, there was a tradition in Russia to hung small Easter eggs on the branches of a miniature tree symbolizing the revival of nature and resurrection to life. For imperial celebrations the Faberge firm fashioned gold trees decorated with pendants that were personally given to the guests by the Emperor and Empress. Blue stands for innocence in Christianity and pendants with blue enamel would be presented to children. The young Crown Prince and Grand Duchesses gave them to their friends, which is mentioned in the memoirs of some Russian aristocrats who emigrated from the country.
