Nicholas II, Nicholas Alexandrovich Romanov (1868-1918; reigned since 1894) was one of most tragic figures in Russian history. He tried to overcome the crisis of the state system and power prompted by the unsolved problems of land owning and peasants' hard life and embarks on the wrong path of economic and governmental reforms which led to the revolution in February 1917 and the end of monarchy in Russia. He was shot with his family in 1918. This miniature portrait of the last Emperor of Russia faithfully conveys his personality and all the details of his uniform. Noteworthy is the accurate and detailed reproduction of the uniform texture, color and drapery as well as the style of the late 19th - early 20th centuries in general.
