The State Hermitage carries out a number of large-scale projects aimed at the development of the Museum.
The Staraya Derevnya Restoration and Storage Centre was built in order to increase the Museum’s storage space and to update its equipment. Fitted out with up-to-date equipment, this museum complex was designed to accommodate the vast Hermitage collections and scientific restoration laboratories.
The handover of the Stock Exchange Building to the State Hermitage will expand the Museum’s display space. The Hermitage exhibits will form the basis of the new Museum of Heraldry’s collection placed there.
Having been established in partnership with the Municipality of Venice, the Hermitage-Italy Centre promotes the strengthening of international and cultural links of the Museum and enhances the motivation for the study of the Hermitage Museum collection.
“The Hermitage 20/21” project, which pursues the objectives to collect, exhibit and study the art of the 20th and 21st centuries, has granted the State Hermitage the status of one of the leading centres of contemporary art in Russia.
