Portrait of Ivan Markov, the Governor of Mogilev

Russia, 1837-1838

Ivan Vasilyevich Markov (1785–1855) served in the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, the Interior, Education and War. He was for several years an official for special assignments attached to Prince Khovansky, the Governor General of Belorussia, and then the civil Governor of Mogilev in 1837–38. He left state service in the rank of privy councillor, probably retiring in 1838 as he does not appear in the official Directory of the Russian Empire after that year.
