This room presents works by Eduard Steinberg (1937–2012), an artist belonging to the second wave of the Russian avant-garde, one of the leaders of non-official art in the 1960s–80s, a follower of Kazimir Malevich who incorporated ideas from Russian religious philosophy into his works. Eleven compositions from his period of geometric abstractions were donated by the artist’s widow, Galina Iosifovna Manevich, to the State Hermitage’s collection of contemporary art in 2014.
