28 мая в Главном штабе прошел ежегодный праздник Студенческого клуба к завершению учебного года.
This time the event was devoted to the Venice Biennale, one of the foremost international exhibitions of contemporary art. In 2019 the State Hermitage became curator of the Russian pavilion and, because of that, the members of the various sections of the Student Club were invited to devise their own version of such a pavilion.
The formal part of the event was opened by Sophia Kudriavtseva, the head of the Youth Centre.
She said she counted herself among “the fans who cannot miss this event that happens once every two years, eager to make the trip again and again to see at least a small fraction” and shared her personal experience. She spoke about the theme of the 2019 Biennale, the geography and arrangement of the pavilions, this year’s winner, the history, the idea, the main projects for the Russian pavilion and the Hermitage’s decision “to present eternal art at an exhibition of contemporary art”.
The second part of the evening was an intellectual game and this year not only the students, but also the teachers of the Student Club’s sections took part. They pondered on who called the Russian pavilion “a Russian salad” and why, what else its architect Alexei Shchusev built, how an icon, garlic and gold are connected, and who issued a public call to “fill in the canals and burn the gondolas”.
After moving from the Atrium to the rooms of the Youth Centre, the guests acquainted themselves with the students’ creative projects on the theme of the Venice Biennale. The sections that presented their ideas were Creative Photography, Artistic Workshop, Landmarks, The East, Contemporary Art: Sources, Images of Italy and Current Artistic Processes.
The event ended with the traditional DJ set from Ladomir Zelinsky.
